The Smokin’ Oak Rotisserie & Grill Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

We had salads only, I had the taco salad, my wife had the "lunch-size" oriental salad. The taco salad was $11.99, and not as good Taco Bell's. It was ok, but not $11.99 ok. The Oriental was unremarkable as well. Should have been called, Chicken-lettuce salad, with oriental dressing. It too was ok, but not worth money. I wouldn't go back. Service was very friendly and prompt. Sorry, Smokin Oak.

I was told about this place from a friend who had them cater her wedding and another who lives in Red Wing and loves BBQ. I have to admit that when I walked in, I was less than thrilled. The hostess looked at me and said she would be right with me but proceeded to bus tables. I was going to walk out but the bartender came to sit me down. He recommended the Cuban with fries. Talk about finger licking!!! To make is better, a very wonderful lady paid for my meal (I was in uniform on my lunch break). Experience was awesome!!

If you are hungry for good meat with great taste this is the place to go in Red Wing, MN. They offer menus for lunch or dinner each with many options. We went there for dinner on a Saturday evening. We ordered the "Rotisserie Sampler Platter". This option gave us the opportunity to taste half Rotisserie Chicken, 4-Bone Rack Rib, Pulled Pork, Beef Brisket and Bull Bites. The taste was superb. It came with garlic bread and coleslaw. This platter served four of us. We ordered side salad. There were two choices of BBQ sauce on the table. We really liked the hot one! The service was excellent. In the summer you have the option to eat inside or in the patio. Next time we visit Red Wing, MN, this is a place to stop back again!

I am sure there are worse places to eat in Red Wing, but I expected more from The Smokin' Oak. Maybe I made a mistake in choosing the Maui burger over some of their signature rotisserie chicken. First, there was nothing but burger, cheese, pineapple, pulled pork and bun. If you were expecting condiments or vegetables, you might want to ask. Second, the meat was incredibly salty, which always raises a red flag for me in terms of food quality. I don't remember the exact dish my fiancee ordered, but she also complained of over-salting. "If you don't have something nice to say ..." I know, what a dick. The onion rings were fantastic and the servers were super friendly and knowledgeable. The location is clean and spacious. Lots of parking. Lots of windows. It smells incredible when you walk in.

Arrogant owner, sub-par food. Eat anywhere else but here!! Yuck. Bad taste in my mouth. Lost both business and personal patronage over the owner's lack of customer service and inhospitable treatment to a group of 20+ people.

This place was just fine Three stars means that it was fine I say it was fine The owner of this place is not a fan of Yelp. To each their own. Reviewing this place strictly on the merits. Ten beers on tap including three from Rush River. Can never go wrong with the Unforgiven. Went with the lunch portion rack of ribs for $10.99. Good, but not knock me off my socks great. Little on the dry side, but the BBQ sauce on the side was tasty and helped remedy that problem. The Cole slaw was also really dry. The server at the bar, Brittany, was prompt, attentive and friendly. So....three stars. Fine. #fine

Stopped in for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon (2 or 2:30pm) and my wife and I were promptly and politely greeted and offered our choice of seating. We went for the patio out front. When you walk in it reminded me of Doolittles a bit with the giant rotisserie right there wafting delicious smells all around. We were going pretty cheap that day so we didn't get any drinks but noticed they at least had some Schells and Rush River beers which would typically appease a beer nerd like me. We ordered the wings and the ribs which appeared to be specialties, at least that's my guess since they were pronounced and outlined on the menu. The wings were good, definitely not the BWW type or anything close to that but they were missing some spice and flavor and the crystal hot sauce to dip them in didn't quite do it for me. The Ribs were better but a bit dry but well spiced and flavorful. Both my wife and I wished we would have gone with 2 orders of ribs instead. The service was good and overall I'd come back if we're hungry and passing through the nice town of Red Wing again.

The food here is fantastic from the wild rice soup to the BBQ . Clean place not a fan of the bar as it isn't inviting. The staff is knowledgeable and attentive kind of sweet yet has a corporate feel

Good food with friendly service... decently priced as well. I always go with a BBQ sandwich for lunch with baked beans - never disappointed.

my wife and I stopped by after hiking in Cannon Falls. It seemed like a nice, simple restaurant. it wasn't crowded when we came in, so we got seated but we did not get waited on! In fact people who came in after us got waited on. we seemed invisible. finally, after about 25 minutes and trying to get someone's attention, we got up to leave. THAT'S when we were noticed! we told them why we were leaving. and in all of this, it doesn't help that we were the only non-white people in the place. not going back!

Steaks were good, brisket was good, hot bbq sauce was good, salad was good for bein mostly iceberg lettuce. A bit noisy, but a fair price for a good meal.

We went here for the first time and had everything from the Chicken and ribs, Brisket, Open faced Turkey Sandwich, Chicken Cesar Salad, Fried Curds, Onion Rings and the Mac and Cheese. Everything was delicious! The service was great. Would definitely recommend this place. We went on a Friday night and it was busy, busy and we still did not have to wait for our food. Would recommend making a reservation.

Great bbq. Good smoke flavor in all meats. Bbq sauces are excellent. Fries and slaw were average. Don't sit on patio. Noise level from highway makes conversation almost impossible.

We stopped here on a road trip with a group of friends. Everyone was very happy with their meal. The wait staff took care of us well even though I'm sure we were a handful. There was a bit of a wait for food, but not obnoxious. We tried the pulled pork nachos and the cheese curds ourselves and both were good, the cheese curds especially so. Would definitely stop here again if we were in the area.

If I could give this place a zero I would! So shocked at the poor customer service. We waited 40 min for our to go order, Bartendar forgot about our drinks as we were waiting, then they messed up the sides. Then we finally get back to our families to eat and in our opinion the chicken in the alfredo was pink and slimy. We were highly irritated to say the least. Went back to complain and the situation started escalating rather quickly, Apparently critique in any form is unacceptable at this establishment. The manager not only didn't want to listen, he was adamanet the chicken was red from smoking, Regardless of our differing viewpoints, that is the time when you simply say I'm sorry if your unsatisfied let me refund you or make you something else. No no no, this manger with owner standing there, continued to question us if we knew what that process of smoking even was, then took his dirty fingers and picked into our PAID for plate of food and started eating the chicken to try and prove a point, THAT is so FAR beyond disgusting and unprofessional! Then the owner refused to listen as we became more and more upset at their complete lack of customer service, He eventually just kicked us out of his restaurant. Shocked at the lack of respect and professionalism in this establishment, I will tell everyone I know never EVER to spend a single dime at this place!

Stopped in here for a beer and a quick bite. Sat at the bar and had a couple of taps and the nachos. the portion was huge and turned out to be a meal by itself. Service was fast and friendly. Nice space.

Stopped in here yesterday in the late afternoon for a couple drinks and and an early dinner. The first thing you notice as you come in the front door is a blast of heat. Once you take a couple more steps you understand why. There is a gi-normous open rotisserie. At the time we were there it held about a dozen whole chickens slowly turning on the spit and filling the restaurant with a wonderful aroma. Two of the folks at our table ordered the half rack ribs and although they were a little on the small side they were very tender, fall-off-the-bone good. Another in our party ordered the tenderloin and was pleased. I ordered the pulled chicke sandwich with no sauce. The chicken was so good - lean and smoky. I chose the sweet potato fries which were nummy. The bun that the chicken came on, however, was pretty stale. All in all this place had some good things going for it - primarily the food. There isn't much in terms of ambience although that huge rotiserrie when you walk in the door is quite impressive. I would definitely go back and try some other items. My rating is actually at the top end of the three range.

The steaks are indeed amazing as is the rotisserie chicken. No great ambiance but I come here for the food. I wish on the weekends they start serving the dinner menu from lunch time.

Absolutely LOVE this place! The potato skins are the best I've ever had. They are my dinner quite often. They have hearty potato skin filled with super tender smoked chicken, pork, and maybe one more meat, but i always get chicken. Then cheddar, BBQ sauce drizzle, and an awesome sour cream that somehow stays good, cool, thick and sour creamy even though its in the hot potato. You have to try them if you can. The brisket is outstanding! The lunch time BBQ sandwiches are AWESOME! The fries are wonderful, the chicken is FABULOUS! The beans are delicious, though you only get a small amount(but that's okay, you got good meat you should be eating instead anyway) I haven't found anything I don't like at Smokin Oak. The best part is that you get all the goodness for the same price as the crap at Applebee's. Five super hearty skins come at a price of 8.99, and an awesome pulled chicken or pork sandwich with two sides for about 10 bucks. The staff is very good, and the wait is only about 10-15 minutes even when their busy! And don't get me started on the great smell and atmosphere....yum! I'll probably eat lunch there today since my mouth is watering as I write this review. Try it! :) Update 09/23/2012 Over the last couple weeks my opinion of this place has sadly dropped considerably. Tonight being the worst. I ordered the chicken potato skins to go as usual. They were made as if they were in a hurry or just didn't care. The chicken had bone chunks, which could be expected but not this much, and the big ones should have been noticed. Only half of the potatoes had filling and the rest was bare. They didn't even try to do a good job....I had been eating this meal every other week for months now and they just lost my business and recommendation. I thought maybe they were going through a slump, but now I'm irritated... I feel ripped off and cheated.

Gotta admit it: we've eaten here a few times in the last months and it's been great. The chicken dinner is well worth the price.

this restraunt... fair at best for higher than average cost. the ribs were dry. the brisket cut vertically (like bacon) rather than the tender fall apart horizontally cut most opt for. their prime rib was also flavorless and not delicious. their chicken was ok but also dry. family of five well over 100.00 bucks and we shared. sides ie mashed potatoes mixed veggies good but small portions in comparison to the protien served. I would have gavr them one star but the staff was attentive and fun....

Curds great, blackened prime rib prepared well, little tough though. Service was a little slow.

This place was nothing special. Overpriced and no ambiance. My Prime Rib Eye Steak was ok, but nothing to come back for. Salad is a cheap add-in for 99 cents, worth about that. French fries were the best part of the meal, hot and tasty! Your typical frozen fries. A man at the table next to us had to send their burger back because it came out like a "hockey puck", and the man also said, "I'd choke it down if it wasn't so dry." Not what you'd expect when paying for food!!! I'll never go back.

I visited Red Wing for a weekend, and we stayed at the Country Inn & Suites that shares a parking lot with the Smokin' Oak. The restaurant has a really cozy feel to it, and the first thing you notice when you walk in is that it smells incredible -- there are chickens and ribs on spits roasting over an open fire. I had a pulled pork sandwich, and it was to die for. The baked beans were some of the best I've ever had. The service was quick and friendly, and the prices were surprisingly reasonable. I loved this place so much that I went back the next night and had a hamburger, which was really delicious. Again, the service was quick and friendly. I really recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves delicious barbequed food!

Met a friend for lunch and I had the "Juicy Lucy" while my friend ordered the chicken and biscuits. This burger is supposedly a 1/2 pounder. It was served on a over sized, mediocre bakery bun and it was no more than 3 inches in diameter. It sure looked like less than 1/2 pound of meat. But, it was way overcooked....beyond well done, so it's probable that the juicy, from my lucy, ended up on the grill. I was not impressed. The fries were good and my friend enjoyed the chicken and biscuits. I think I'll pass on the "juicy lucy" next time.

Just to help even this out - I don't think this restaurant warrants a 1 star based on what I read - cold restaurant...I would save my 1-stars for truly bad places that made me question my sanity for actually ordering off the menu... Looking for good "American" food with my visiting mother, I made my first stop into the Smokin' Oak a month ago and was happy with the experience. The menu had plenty of options and I ordered a burger that was huge and tasty. The fries were good and the bbq sauces were also very good. The bun was good and the burger was cooked exactly as I wanted. My mother had a beef brisket dinner with the sweet potato fries and their steamed/sauteed veggies. She liked the brisket but was very excited about the veggies and the fries. Her bread was fluffy and very good. She liked her meal so much that she talked about it the rest of her 10-day visit and insisted we go back before she left. I was less impressed with the ambiance and felt like it missed a few things in presentation - but I had no problem going back. So why the 3-stars? Our return trip was only so-so. I ordered a forgettable dinner and she went with the steak special and wasn't as impressed with the veggies and mashed potatoes...she said she should have gotten the sweet potatoes again. So, first trip was a solid 4 star for both of us, maybe even a five star experience, but the second trip was just a 2-star visit for both of us. Still, it is not a waste of your time if you like BBQ to drop in for a meal, the prices were fair, the service was pretty good and the food was not bad, just one visit was awesome the next was a let down...not sure why.

Another good place to eat in Red Wing. The chicken is always delicious. The first time we stopped we weren't sure we would be back, but the food was great. Later we found out that it was their first dinner service. We've returned many times and the food is always good. Come early to beat the crowd.

Great BBQ! The pulled pork had a beautiful smokey flavor that had a spice to it. And, their house-made hot BBQ sauce had a great flavor with a burn that stuck with me for a couple of hours.

My wife and I spent a night at a bed and breakfast in Red Wing, and this place was recommended by several people. It is not in the downtown area, but worth the drive. The food was outstanding, I had the chicken chimichanga, which was crisp and had a great sauce and very moist chicken. My wife had the chicken Alfredo which was very good as well. The food is great, and it is not too expensive. I highly recommend trying Smokin Oak if your in the area, and the name is fun to say several times really fast as well.

My cousin took me to this place for a quick beer and snack. The beer list was kinda small. I had a Rush River Double Bubble. We had the wings with buffalo sauce. They were awesome! Cooked in a wood-fired rotisserie (not fried) with the sauce on the side just the way I like 'em. We sat at the bar and the service was fine.

  • Shannon G.

Upon entering the open pit rotisserie with chickens and all the great wood smoke smell was beautiful. I ordered the Bull Bites app and they were juicy and flavorful. The folks around me received large portion sizes for the money and exclaimed over and over how good it all tasted. I will definitely go again.

It was cold in the restaurant. Our service was horrible. Our burger came out barely cooked and we had to send it back. The cheese curds were way overpriced for the handful that you get, plus they tasted reheated and not fresh. We will not be eating here again.

It smells great when you drive by this place and when you walk in the door, they have an awesome rotisserie with ribs and whole chickens. Unfortunately, when you have to stand in front of it for 30 minutes, waiting for a table, you walk away feeling like your eyeballs have been skinned. The service was just ok. My husband ordered the $12.99 Big Oak cheeseburger which sounded like it was going to be monstrous, but really wasn't and he ate it with no problem, as well as finishing the kids fries. The kids menu doesn't even have a cheeseburger on it, and was expensive. We asked for a 1/3 lb burger (not on the menu) for our 8 year old. Burger taste was good and smoky, but portions were smaller than they are written up to be. My 5 year old ordered a $5 plate of Kraft Mac & Cheese off the kids menu. I ordered the Burnside Steak Sandwich for $10.99, supposedly it was going to be the "best steak sandwich I would ever have", according to the menu. NOT SO. I couldn't even taste the steak, there was so little of it . There was also VERY little of the smoked swiss cheese on it and all I could taste was the grilled bun. I'm very bummed out, I had really hoped for better from this place. I much prefer to go to family owned or unique restaurants and this place fits the bill, but for the cost and value, I guess I'll have to stick to Famous Dave's for my BBQ.

This is fairly decent for Red Wing, which is so lacking in good restaurants. As others note, the service is fast & friendly. The smells of the grill/rotisserie are intoxicating. The prices are very resaonable. I had the BBQ brisket, which could have been more tender. but the baked beans were very good, tasty garlic bread. I did not like the cole slaw - very bland. Now my sister had the prime rib and the temprature was to her order. Delicious and excellent garlic mashed tates. I would try it again when in Red Wing for sure.

I've eaten at the Smokin' Oak four times. Ya, it's like eating in a cafeteria - a pretty nice one though. The decor is fairly plain (I do like the old photos on the walls), and it's noisy. BUT, I'm mesmerized by the sight and smell of the rotary grill fired by oak logs - inside the restaurant. It's fun to watch, and it smells great! We've found the food to be quite good. Meat is their specialty (pretty obvious). Last time, we had the big, meat-sampler platter. It was excellent! The previous times, I had the beef brisket (sandwich and platter), which were very good. My gal loves the rotiserie-chicken entrees. The beer is very cold, and there's a good selection - on tap and in bottles. The owner/manager is very friendly. Wait staff has been good, but not stellar. Overall, one of my recent favorite restaurants. We drive 45 miles to eat there. Remember, MEAT is what they do best.

It's been over 5 years later and I'll revise to reflect my most recent experience: I stopped in while in transit with several friends. The fare was back to the above average quality though the portions remain small for the price. I'll not avoid Smokin' Oak but am not so convinced as to aniticipate with excitement. Still a 3 star experience. Revised: Service and bang-for-buck have taken a turn for the worse. Reducing to 3 stars rounding up from what I really judge 2.5 at best. Will be watching for improvements and update accordingly. In high hopes for a return to better days but not holding my breath. Original: Have been to this place three times and each time have had a wonderful experience. I must say the first time gave reason for caution after watching the hostess and manager having a row outside the back door. But, all fears were put to rest upon taking the first scrumptious bite of their kickin' pulled pork sandwich. They offer an awesome selection of hot sauces. My wife loves the prime rib. As we travel through Red Wing many times over the summer, we plan to make a habit of stopping at Smokin' Oak Rotisserie & Grill.
